Residential Services
This program coordinates both on-island and off-island residential placement of children and adults who experience a variety of disabling conditions or exhibit behaviors that require specialized residential treatment, persons who are considered extremely at risk and are unable to be cared for in a general or foster home setting.
All services are provided through professional contracts and it is the responsibility of the program to ensure that contracts are in place, to monitor facilities and coordinate placement for off-island care.
This program also coordinates the Residential Care Facility Task Forces (under the auspices of Bill No. 16-0171) to study and make recommendations to the Governor concerning the need for a coordinated system of residential care facilities.
The Department of Human Services had developed and implemented a strategy to consolidate the delivery of residential services for the Departments of Health and Education, which will avoid duplication of function.
